Autoimmune Disease A Holistic Approach
Written by Dr. Andréa Brisson
I have recently been diagnosed with an Autoimmune Disease called Hoshimotos. It is a condition that causes inflammation to the Thyroid gland affecting the efficiency of Thyroid function.
Always concerned about addressing the underlying cause of any health issue and knowing that all Autoimmune Diseases have in common an inflammatory component, I have discovered that a cause of this inflammation is something called Leaky Gut Syndrome.
In a nutshell, Leaky Gut Syndrome is when the gut lining is inflamed causing little holes in the lining of the gut that allows undigested proteins to leak out into the bloodstream. The body intelligently responds (remember, the body is ALWAYS intelligently responding to itsÕ environmentÉ.) by producing antibodies to these undigested proteins. These antibodies are designed to seek out and destroy the antigens produced by the undigested proteins. It is the presence of these antibodies that are a marker for Autoimmune Disease.
So what makes sense to me is to heal the gut!!! If doing so stops the undigested proteins from leaking out into the bloodstream then this situation is being healed at a causal level. Sounds good to me! Stop those dominos from falling...
So how does one go about healing the gut??? I have learned about a product called Inflamm X. It is by Metagenics (whole food, natural, all that good stuffÉ) and is designed to heal the gut. Oh, by the way, you also have to get rid of the stuff that is causing an irritation in the first place. Say good bye to white refined wheat, possible all grains, at least temporarily, and white refined sugar. I know, I shouldnÕt be eating that crap in the first place. Nothing like a diagnosis as incentive to get my act together! There is also a product called Kaprex AI that helps to reduce the inflammation. It takes 3-6 months to heal the gut lining, thus, these protocols are recommended for that period of time, or until diagnostic markers show a resolve. Down the road a good probiotic may be necessary as well.
By the way, Leaky Gut Syndrome is also linked to Celiac Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Fibromyalgia, Autism, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Eczema, Dermatitis, and Ulcerative Colitis.
So, in the spirit of making lemonade out of lemons, I am able to pass this information on to you! A great website that gives details information on this subject is www.leakygut.co.uk
If you want to discuss this further, or need assistance in healing strategies, please give me a call. I will do my very best to help you in any way I am able.
